The majority of
European legislative initiatives on accessibility
are oriented
to adopt the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines carried out within the
Web Accessibile Initiative (WAI) project of the W3Consortium.
The e-Europe 2002 action plan take into consideration the adoption of WAI standards
for all public web sites for the end of 2004 (the original deadline was the end of 2001 !?!).
Also the legislation of each european countries are
WAI oriented.
The involvment of United Kingdom on accessibility issues is worldwide well-known but also
here - in Germany - I know that the Bundesbehindertengleichstellungsgesetz (BBGG legislation)
the Barrierefreie Informationstechnik
Verordnung (BITV legislation) and the Aktionsbündnis barrierefreie
Informationstechnik (ABL legislation) have been carried out with the aim to adopt WAI
standards with 2005 deadline for all governative sites.
In Italy two important legislative initiatives were carried out on 2001 but also
on 2004 with the enactment and the promotion of the so-called
accessibility law
the public opinion and the Public Adminsitration's managers are being involved in the
Web accessibility problem.
